About Toon Bierman

Toon Bierman

Toon Bierman graduated from the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg in 2007 with Joop Albracht. He has taken master classes with Håkon Austbø, Mikhail Vosskressensky, Jan Wijn, Marie-Laur e Boulanger, Vladimir Tropp, Pascal Devoyon, Rian de Waal, Michael Davidson, Charles Neidich and Alan Weiss, among others. He has participated in various competitions and festivals.

For example, he was a prize winner of the Prinses Christina Concours in 1999 and 2001, was closely involved in Traces of Voices and Traces of Rythm, and won the jury prize of modern music series De Link in 2006.

From 2005 he studied second phase piano with Joop Albracht, Jan Gruithuizen and Marie-Laure Boulanger, focusing on twentieth century piano and chamber music in various ensembles. Together with clarinettist Anne Swinkels he has formed Duo Kandinsky since 2004. In 2006 they recorded both Brahmssonates and the Grand Duo Concertant by Weber in the Young Talent series of KRO radio and gave successful concerts at the UITmarkt 2006 and 2007. In November 2007 they recorded for the Concertzender the third sonata by Max Reger and the sonata for clarinet and piano by Edison Denisov, among others.

Since 2009, he has been working as a repetiteur at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg and on a project basis with De Nationale Reisopera in Enschede. He is also a permanent member of Lunapark, an ensemble focusing on contemporary music.
